Insights from the Voices of Play Conference

Voices of Play – A Journey into the World of Children

On July 25th, Voices of Play brought together children from across India for a unique online event where they shared their views on play. This conference, led by children, offered a fresh perspective on what play means to them, challenging adults’ traditional views and expectations.

The event explored whether activities like singing or wandering aimlessly could be considered play, urging us to rethink how we create play opportunities for children. At the heart of the discussion was the idea that play and learning are closely intertwined, but not always in ways adults may expect. For children, play is driven by curiosity and freedom, rather than predetermined outcomes.

The conference also highlighted the importance of creating physical spaces where children can explore freely. With city planning often neglecting the needs of children, play spaces are limited, pushing children toward screens. Despite this, children continue to find ways to play and grow.

This report captures children’s voices, offering insights into their world and encouraging adults to rethink how we view and facilitate play.
