Bachpan Baithak: A Guide to Gathering Around Childhood

Author(s):

A ‘Bachpan Baithak’ is a space for adults to come together and think deeply about childhood.

This workbook was created as a guide for anyone who wants to host these conversations in the places where childhood actually happens: schools, libraries, parks, anganwadis, neighbourhood spaces, homes, and community centres. It offers a simple structure, activities, facilitation tools, and reflections that help create the conditions for honest, thoughtful dialogue.

At its heart, a Bachpan Baithak is not a programme or an event. It is a practice. One that asks adults to slow down, remember, question, listen, and imagine together. Every Baithak will look different depending on the people, language, stories, and realities in the room, but each one contributes to a larger movement to reimagine childhood with more care, dignity, freedom, and presence.

We hope this workbook travels across cities, communities, and contexts, and helps many more people begin conversations that stay with them long after the room has emptied.
