The Anganwadi Impact Report 2023–24 documents the outcomes of the Read-Aloud initiative implemented in Tumakuru and Chikkamagaluru districts of Karnataka. Over nine months, librarians conducted regular story sessions in Anganwadis to nurture emergent literacy among children aged 3–5.5 years. The study found that frequent storytelling visits not only enhanced children’s vocabulary, comprehension, and attention spans but also encouraged positive emotional responses and curiosity about books. Children gradually developed the ability to hold books correctly, turn pages patiently, and engage more deeply with stories. Teachers too benefitted from the program, gaining new strategies to connect with children. The findings affirm that reading aloud at an early age is a powerful practice that strengthens foundational learning, fosters joyful reading habits, and bridges learning gaps in early childhood education.
